Where is it: The two sets of countries I chose were North and South Korea, for the merging, and Quebec from Canada for the Separating. The new Korean boundaries would just be the two countries territories combined, whereas Quebec's new boundaries would include the Provinces Quebec, Newfoundland, and Labrador.
WHY are they there: The merging of the new Korea would happen because of their shared centripetal forces, such as their shared history, language, and religion. Quebec would separate from Canada mainly because of there differing cultures and languages.
Why are they THERE: The boundaries that make up the New Korea, are a physio-political boundary on the north, and the Yellow and East China Seas. The physio-political boundary is the Yalo Jiang River. The boundaries that make up the new Quebec would be a geometric boundary running along the a line of longitude on the west, and a major cultural boundary because of the differing languages of French and English.
What difference will it make: North Korea is currently in a feud with South Korea, and the idea of them merging would be preposterous, but if Kim Jong-un is taking from his dictorial position, the two countries could merge. North Korea would benefit from this, but it would initially be a burden on South Korea. Quebec could devolve easily, and would benefit from it, because they would get their own land and new parliament to properly represent the French-based public. Canada would not likely want to let go Quebec, because it would be a large loss of territory.
